Quick Selection Guide for Push Pull Controls

This guide will take you from general questions to a specific Kobelt product to meet your needs. If you are replacing another manufacturer’s control, use the replacement table. After selecting a control, you will probably need some accessories to connect the control head to cables, or the engine.   • MODEL 2002 TWIN HANDLE ECONO PUSH PULL CONTROL HEAD

    Our Model 2002 is designed for small workboat and pleasure craft, for single or multi-station control of engine speed and gear box direction.

    Its rugged design, simplicity in construction and quality of material (brass, and stainless steel hardware) will give years of trouble-free service, with a minimum investment.

    The throttle lever can only be moved with the gear control in either neutral, forward, or reverse position. This feature will protect the gear box, since the engine must be at idle for clutch shifting.

     

    Model 2003 3" Single Handle Push/Pull Control

    This control is manufactured in all bronze and stainless steel and offers trouble-free service in salt-water conditions.

     

    It is dimensionally the same as model 2009, except for the width, which is narrower and also uses the same three styles of handles in an assortment of lengths.

    This control is intended for a single-function application.

    Model 2004 Heavy Duty 3" Stroke One Handle Push Pull Control Head

    Designed and built with careful attention to quality materials and workmanship. This control can be supplied with two types of handles; standard, or handles with plastic grips.
    Model 2006 Heavy Duty 4" Stroke One Handle Push Pull Control Head

    This heavy duty push-pull control has up to 4 inches of stroke, which makes it ideal for the control of small C.P. propellors, small mechanical clutches and small water jets. It is available with two types of handles; standard, or handles with plastic grips.

    Model 2009 3" Stroke Two Handle Push Pull Control Head

    This control is available with three different handles; standard, handles with plastic grips or curved handles with knobs. An optional clutch and throttle interlock can be ordered with this unit.

    The purpose of this interlock is to prevent shifting, above engine idle. It is only available for systems having clutch and throttle on the same control. In two station applications only one interlock is required. For gears with an electric clutch, an adapter with two microswitches can be ordered.

    Model 2010 2 3/8" Stroke Two Handle Push Pull Control Head

    Model 2010 is a medium duty push pull control. It is available with either standard handles or handles with plastic grips. Due to its maximum stroke of 2 3/8" it is not recommended for multi stations or outboard-engine.

    Model 2011 Heavy Duty, 3" Stroke Two Handle Push Pull Control Head

    This control is available with two different handles; standard, or handles with plastic grips. An optional clutch and throttle interlock can be ordered with this unit.

    Model 2012 Heavy Duty 4" Stroke Two Handle Push Pull Control Head

    The heavy duty design of this control makes it ideal for the control of C.P. propellers, small water jets and small mechanical clutches requiring up to 4" of stroke. Two different types of handles are available; standard or handles with red or black plastic grips.

    Model 2015 Two Handle Push Pull Control

    This control incorporates all the features of the Kobelt standard Push Pull Control: 3" stroke, all bronze and stainless steel, and is extremely heavy duty construction. The cable support bracket has been shortened to improve cable attachment access to the Control head.

    If you prefer a different appearance you might want to order the 2009 control.

    Model 2016 Stackable Flush Mount Control

    This control, like all other Kobelt controls, is totally constructed in bronze and stainless steel.

    Ease of installation and maintenance as well as adjustable detent and frictions make this product one outstanding. The levers can be combined to suit customer requirement and an almost unlimited variety of control functions can be accomplished.

    The Model 2016 DOES NOT PROVIDE SINGLE LEVER CONTROL. Only ONE function can be accomplished per lever.

    Because of the quality manufacture and engineering, we can again offer a five-year warranty on this product.

    Model 2020 Single Lever, Dual Function, Multi Engine Control Head

    The 2020 Control Head offers more features than any other control of this type in the world. It was designed for dual function (clutch and throttle), single lever mechanical controls.

    It is constructed entirely in bronze and stainless steel with a low profile dome per our customers’ requests. The mechanical output portion is on a swivel base allowing the cables to be mounted in any of the three downward positions. Extremely robust in construction, it is intended for the most demanding applications.

    This control head is available in multi-engine configuration whereas the controls can be mounted side by side as shown in the picture above for a three engine application and for most cable sizes. The number of controls that can be stacked together is virtually unlimited.

     

    Model 2022 Two Lever, Low Profile, Mechanical Control Head

    The Model 2022 is a low profile Control Head offering the construction features of a heavy duty model without the heavy duty cost. Manufactured entirely of bronze and stainless steel, it will provide years of trouble free service.

    It is intended for single function, single handle control (i.e. separate clutch and throttle handles). Due to its efficient design it can be used as a simple "drop-in" replacement for a MorseTM SF unit.

    Model 2030 Single Handle Side Mount Control Head

    The model 2030 side mount control head is made from corrosion free die cast silicon brass with stainless steel hardware. The control head is designed for the salt water environment and will provide years of trouble free service.

    It is especially intended for such applications as sailboat clutch and throttle control but can also be applied on many industrial and marine applications for controlling variable delivery hydraulic pumps, rotary or sildeable levers and devices with relatively small mechanical forces.

    A neutral or mid position adjustable detent or adjustable friction is supplied as standard equipment. This control head is designed to permit the cable support bracket to be installed at 90o increments in relation to the control handle.

    2031 Two Lever Heavy Duty Sidemount Control

    This side-mount control is intended to control water jets, power take-offs, small mechanical clutches, and various other heavy duty applications where 60 series cable is employed. The long handles provide from 3" to 6" stroke.

    It is possible to use this model on a two-station (in series) application whereby two levers are provided on the backside of the control for connection of two cables, one to the remote station and one to the item to be controlled.

    The all bronze and stainless steel construction will give years of trouble-free service.

     

    2032 One Lever Heavy Duty Sidemount Control

    This side-mount control is intended to control water jets, power take-offs, small mechanical clutches, and various other heavy duty applications where 60 series cable is employed. The long handles provide from 3" to 6" stroke.

    It is possible to use this model on a two-station (in series) application whereby two levers are provided on the backside of the control for connection of two cables, one to the remote station and one to the item to be controlled.

    The all bronze and stainless steel construction will give years of trouble-free service.

    Model 2042 Heavy Duty, Side Mount Single Lever Control

    This unit is constructed entirely in bronze and stainless steel and is intended for the discriminating boat owner who is looking for durability and performance. It incorporates all of the features that make for good boating. The control handle has a very large arc of rotation to give good feel over both clutch and throttle. A clutch override button is provided to allow acceleration of the engine without engaging the gear.

    This unit is extremely compact and is available in several versions. The standard finish would be a chrome plated handle and front housing.

    MODEL - 2043 HEAVY DUTY SIDEMOUNT SINGLE LEVER CONTROL

    The 2043 is a spin off from our model 2044. The extremely heavy-duty internal design of this unit allows for connection of 60 series cable for the control of small water jets and engine speed with a single lever. The control handle can be pulled out for overriding throttle.

    The output lever for the water jet bucket has an adjustable stroke (max 4") and can be adjusted to suit all small water jets. The throttle output lever has several attaching points for the cable with a stroke of up to 1 ¾"

     

    Model - 2044 Heavy Duty Sidemount Single Lever Control

    The model 2044 is available in two different versions; with neutral locking handle (as shown) for power boats and with removable sailboat handle (not shown).

    Moving the control handle in either direction will engage the gear before advancing the throttle. In order to warm up the engine without engaging the gear, the handle can be pulled out approximately 1/4". This will disengage the clutch mechanism and allow for engine acceleration only. Moving the handle back to neutral re-engages the clutch mechanism.

    The clutch travel is a maximum of 3" (76mm) and the throttle travel is 1 3/4" (44mm). The cable attaching bracket can be rotated at 90 degree increments.

    This control is also available as a master control for two stations together with model 2093. Please contact Kobelt for more details.

     

    Model 2046 Medium Duty, Single Lever Control Head

    The control head 2046 was made for a marine environment and to give the boat owner years of trouble-free service. Its compact and rugged design exceeds any competitive product in value and performance.

    The control handle will engage the gear in either direction before throttle acceleration takes place. In order to warm up the engine without gear engagement, the control handle is pulled away from the dome approximately 1/4". This will disengage the clutch mechanism and will allow engine acceleration.

    When the control handle is returned to neutral position, the clutch mechanism is automatically engaged.

    The control head also provides a small detent in the full throttle position in one direction only (forward). This will prevent the engine from creeping back, which gives loss of RPM. By reversing the detent roller and spring assembly, the full speed detent can also be reversed.

    The clutch travel is maximum 3" (76cm) and throttle travel is maximum 1-5/8" (41mm). An optional throttle stroke extension kit is available which will extend th stroke to 2-5/8" (67mm) and contains all necessary parts to connect either a 33 or 43 series cable.

    NOTE: If you are using the 2046 as a replacement for the Morse™ MT control, the end of the cable support will be 2 3/4" wide. Which is wider than the 2 3/8" for the Morse™.

    Model 2047 Single Lever Control Head

    This control head was recently developed by Kobelt Manufacturing as a smaller version of the 2048 and it incorporates all of the same features. The throttle travel is 2 3/8" and the maximum clutch travel is 3".

    This unit is constructed entirely of bronze and stainless steel and offers a five year warranty. It can be used in either push or pull mode for the clutch or throttle. A roller type detent is incorporated into the 2047 as well as an independent throttle override.

    The rugged construction of this model puts it in the top of its class. When comparing the value of this control with that of any other single lever control on the market, it is difficult to conceive why boaters would choose to purchase a cheaper substitute.

    The 2047 will outlast most other products in the marketplace by a minimum of 2:1. This places our product among the most price effective and reliable controls of its kind.

    Model 2048 Twin Engine, Medium Duty, Single Lever Control Head

    The 2048 control head is a twin engine version of the 2046 control head. It has the same features as the 2046 single lever control head.

    In order to warm up an engine without gear engagement, the control handle is pulled away from the dome approximately 1/4". This will disengage the clutch mechanism and will allow engine acceleration.

    When the control handle is returned to the neutral position, the clutch mechanism is automatically engaged.

    The control head also provides a small detent in the full throttle position in one direction only (forward). This will prevent the engine from creeping back. By reversing the detent roller and spring assembly, the full speed detent can also be reversed.

    Model 2050 Heavy duty single lever control head

    The model 2050 control head was designed for the discriminate boat owner who requires a non-corrosive unit that offers dependability, accuracy, and many years of trouble free service.

    This latest addition to the line of Kobelt quality products has a total absence of aluminum and is made from die cast silicon brass and stainless steel hardware.

    The overriding throttle is interlocked and is only operative when the single lever control handle is in neutral position. When the overriding throttle is moved above idling it is not possible to engage the gear unless the overriding throttle is limited to approximately 2/3 maximum engine speed.

    This control head has provision for five different connecting points for throttle cable and therefore provides five different stroke lengths. In order to obtain engine acceleration the cable must be installed to provide a pulling action on the speed setting device. The clutch control cam is equipped with four different connecting points for the clutch cable. The clutch cable can be installed to provide either push or pull for forward or reverse direction.

    Model 2061 One Station Singe Engine, Single Lever, Electric Clutch Control With Mechanical Push Pull For Engine Speed

    The 2061 was designed for reverse gears with provision for electrical shift from neutral to forward and reverse. The mid handle position will provide neutral. The two micro switches controlled by the main cam have a maximum amperage capacity of 5 and an AC voltage of 250.

    The speed control cable can be either of the 30 or 40 series (see ordering information adaptor kits).     Model 2062 One Station, Twin Engine, Single Lever, Electric Clutch Control With Mechanical Push Pull For Engine Speed

    The maximum clutch stroke is 2-3/4" (70 mm) and the maximum throttle stroke is 2-5/8" (57 mm). The various connection points provide the correct travel for your engine and gear.

    The remote control head is Model 2093.

    Model 2092 Two Station, Single Lever Controls

    The 2092 master control heads feature a pull-out handle for overriding throttle. All models are entirely made of die-cast silicon bronze and stainless steel hardware and are backed up with our five-year warranty.

    The maximum clutch stroke is 2-3/4" (70mm) and the maximum throttle stroke is 2-5/8" (57mm). Various connection points provide the correct travel for your engine and gear.

    The remote control head is Model 2094.

    Model 2093 Remote Control

    Model 2093 remote control for model 2091 is of the same rugged design. Entirely made up of die cast silicon bronze and stainless steel hardware and is backed with our usual warranty. This head comes with all the hardware to mount the interconnecting cables. These must be 47 series pull/pull cables.

    The cable is attached with the clamps on the bottom of the supports of the control heads and the chain can be placed over the sprocket. When the control head is in the neutral position (handle in mid-position), the loose ends of the chain should be equally long on either side of the sprocket. The cable core is equipped with two nuts on either end. One of the nuts must be removed then the cable-end can be passed through the adaptor link. The nut can now be re-installed.

    It is also important to remember that the cable must be crossed between the control heads in order to get the handles to move in the same direction. Note that the forward cable from the master station is attached on the aft side of the remote station and the forward cable of the remote station is attached to the aft side of the master station.

    The cables have enough thread at the end to allow balancing of the handles at both stations. The best way of accomplishing this is by placing the master station in the neutral position (handle straight up). The adjusting nuts a the end of the cable can now be tightened or loosened as required to balance the handles. Note that over-tightening of the cable core will result in excessive friction and will make the control system very stiff and difficult to operate.

    A deflection of 3/8" - 1/2" in the cable to either side between the sprocket and the cable conduit clamp is essential. It is important that the two nuts at the cable-end are secured tightly against the adapting link. To accomplish this you must use two 3/8" wrenches. Under no circumstances must the chain be twisted when tightening these nuts.

    Model 2094 Remote Control
     

    Model 2094 Remote Control for 2092 is of the same rugged design, entirely made of die cast silicon bronze and stainless steel hardware and is backed with our usual warranty. This head comes with all the hardware to mount the interconnecting cables. These must be 47 series pull/pull cables.

    The cable is attached with the clamps on the bottom of the supports of the control heads and the chain can be placed over the sprocket. When the control head is in the neutral position (handle in mid-position), the loose ends of the chain should be equally long on either side of the sprocket.

    2123 Universal Cable Transfer Unit

    The universal Cable Transfer Unit is a very useful device in Push-Pull Control systems where motion reversal is necessary or where the span of movement must be altered. The ability to connect cables (up to 4) at various connections points on the opposite side of the main lever provides all these functions. It is possible to increase the stroke from 3” to 4” cable or reduce the stroke from 3” to 2” cable.

    Construction is all bronze and stainless steel.

    2124 Compound Unit

    The Compound Unit was developed for two-station applications and for use on compound engine arrangements.

    On two station applications, long cables sometimes require the use of 40 series cable from the wheelhouse to the engine room, but many in-board out-board engines are designed for connection to a 30-series cable. The Compound Unit can be installed just below the wheelhouse floor. Both stations are connected to it with a 30 or 40 series cable which runs to the clutch or throttle. On compound engine installations, the control cable runs into the Compound Unit and two cables lead away to the separate engine throttles.

    2128 Universal Adaptor Kit

    This universal adaptor kit was developed in order to avoid stocking hundreds of different adaptor kits. Its title explains its function.

    Virtually any bolt, or preferably two bolts on the gear or engine, close to cable attaching point, can be used to install this universal adaptor kit. With its linkage and swiveling ends, cables can be run directly to the clamping bracket and allow easy cable installation; this avoids costly designing and fabrication. It can be used for parallel or series installations.

    Model 4601 - Hydraulic Time Delay

    A non-hunting, Hydraulic Servo Unit with infinite positioning, which can be used as a power booster or a delay device.

    It is frequently installed on Marine Propulsion Uniters to operate the governor lever. The gear oil pressure (a minimum gear oil pressure differential of 80 psi is required) is used to operate the Servo Unit. A pressure hold-back valve is installed in the pressure line between the gear and the Servo Unit. The pressure is held back until after the gear is engaged; but before reaching a maximum operating pressure, the pressure hold-back valve (adjustable) opens, permitting oil to flow to the Servo Unit. At this point the Servo Unit is operative.

    When using the Model 2312 Single Lever Control, an independent throttle control valve is fitted on to the single lever control to provide oil flow in the neutral position only.

    This hydraulic Time Delay System has proved itself many times over in saving the repeated cost of gear repairs, clutch replacements and down time – and is of special use in such applications as boom-boats and small tugs that are maneuvering constantly.

    4602 Hydraulic Servo Cylinder
    Model 4602 is a very compact and non-hunting servo cylinder. It is used to control stiff throttles (mechanical governors).

    Push-pull cables are not suitable for heavy workloads, as they will generate a lot of friction. Control over the engine speed can therefore be very difficult. The use of a servo cylinder in such applications will provide infinite and fingertip control. The output movement is absolutely proportional to the input movement.

    A 4602 servo cylinder together with a 3015 pressure hold back valve can also be used as a throttle delay. This is however only possible if the gear has a differential oil pressure from neutral to the engaged position. The adjustable pressure hold back valve keeps the 4602 servo cylinder inoperative until gear engagement takes place. Once gear oil pressure is high enough to open the 3015 valve, oil is permitted to flow to the servo cylinder making the throttle operative.

    Model 4605 - Hydraulic Servo Cylinder

    This cylinder was especially designed where full power follow-up control is required.

    Its purpose is to provide ‘finger tip’ control over relatively hard moving machine components. The 4605 can be remote mechanically operated with Kobelt Push Pull controls or with pneumatic control devices. The cylinder is available in 4", and 6" and 8" stroke configurations using basically the same components.

    The maximum operating pressure is 500 psi. It will produce 1300 pounds of maximum force in either direction. The response time at 300 psi on an 8" stroke cylinder is 1.75 seconds. 4 GPM is required to achieve this (reduced GMP will lengthen response time). Under the same condition a 4" stroke cylinder will move from extreme to extreme in one second.

    Its all bronze and stainless steel construction will offer years of trouble-free service. Its applications are the control of water jet buckets, steering gear, power take-off and innumerable other applications where infinite positioning and forced multiplication is required.
    Model 4607 – Electric Power Assist

    provide a power assist for hard to move push pull cable systems. Its maximum force is 120" lbs. A DC power supply is required, either 12V or 24V.

    A terminal strip is provided for connecting the DC power. In order to install the wire, the cover for the terminal strip must be removed and the wire must be inserted thought the connector provided and fed though to the terminal strip.

    The positive wire must be connected to the red wire and the negative to the white, where one must be absolutely sure that the right polarity is used.

    The terminal strip is, located on the mechanical input side. The cable coming from the control head must be connected to the input side.

    A pointer is provided on the shaft to indicate its position, since the bracket can be installed in six different ways. The lever must be removed to coincide with the bracket and cable lead. The pointer must be not removed since it is the only indication for mid position. On the output side, the bracket can be installed in eight different ways.

    A 3" stroke cable can be installed on the input side and a 4" cable can be on the output side. By installing the input cable (3" stroke) on the second hole from the end of the input lever and installing the output cable on the last hole on the actuator lever, it will increase the stroke to 3.75".

    On long cable runs it is more than likely that there will be a lot of lost motion in the incoming cable and by arranging the cable on lever the motion can be regained.
